Red

In the time of milk shadows
she walks down a crooked lane
spilling
black
block
hearts
from the inner trails of her womb
coughing out a breeze
that was once lost in
the changing of seeds
velvet red girl from woolly moss roots
her cry that seizes to burn
a fist for the free
anarchical in her dreams
up, onto the other side
the calm before the fire
rises
underneath a voluptuous moon
spreading the blooms in breaking through
and I want her fire, too

Written for dVerse Poetic in the exploration of rebellious art.

from the inner trails of her womb...dang now that is an image...matter of fact your images throughout are strong...the voluptuous moon...nice descriptor...and i think i would not mind a bit of her either...

  2. First thing that really stick out for me is the form....really flowing, abstract, fantastically descriptive...and something here about growing up? not wanting to lose the fire and rebellion that children are able to freely live day in day out?...the changing of the seeds...for me there was something here about moving into womanhood- this poem really got me thinking...i found it completely engaging actually!..(ps i apologise if im MILES of the mark!)

  4. Love those last three lines, especially "I want her fire, too."

  5. It is more than rebellious, it is a cry of defiance, almost a challenge that women have the key and are the true custodians of the future and will use it. This is so powerful I wonder whether other men may read it and say being a woman is not only a responsibility but a gift that they cannot really share.
    A stunning piece of work.

  14. I especially like your first six lines. It was so effective to leave three of the words on separate lines for impact and jarring pause.
